341 - 21st - Facing the ocean

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 21st Nov'08

Staring at the sea usually invokes two opposite emotions inside me - on one side the ocean inspires me to grow so big that everyone who looks at me can't help from doing anything but become spellbound while on the other side it makes me feel so nonexistent that it melts away each and every trace of proud or feeling of grandeur inside me.

I just love to sit in front of the sea and spend some time in peace. This was one such place in Cancun where I spent some time alone with my favorite landscape – a vast stretch of ocean.

328 - 8th - At the horizon

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 8th Nov'08

After a long day of roaming around I was exhausted to the core and thus decided to have a break and rest for some time at a deserted beach. As I was searching for an empty place to lie down, it was already getting dark and the beautiful coconut trees on the beach had started to turn into silhouettes. The sun had gone to bed leaving behind a dim trail of light. The ship at the horizon seemed to be sailing back home.

I lay down on en empty chair and closed my eyes. The sound of splashing water and a cool breeze hitting my face soon led me into deep slumbers.

327 - 7th - Point no 34

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 7th Nov'08

This photo is from Xcaret - Playa del carmen. Xcaret is a beach-side fun-cum-water activity resort. I visited there a couple of weeks back and decided to jump in for snorkeling. Snorkeling has always been something which thrilled me and I always wanted to do. So I booked for the trip and was asked by the ticket counter to go to "Point no 34" and pick up my towel, locker and equipment.

When I reached point 34, this is what I saw. A big building beautifully structured in the form of a spiral with numerous windows all around it's face and giving a combined look of Greek architecture and ancient Maya stone constructions.

321 - 1st - Orchids

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 1st Nov'08

Orchids is one of the most famous species of flowering plants. I got a chance to shoot some of them at the orchid nursery in Xcaret. There were so many different kinds of Orchids there & each one of them so was beautiful that I can dedicate one post to all of them. These brownish-yellow ones were my favorites among them all.

Did you know that the "Vanilla" flavor comes from a famous orchid called Vanilla Planifolia

319 - 30th - On the beachside

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 30th Oct'08

Cancun is famous for its "Caribbean" beaches, with crystal clear sea water and beautiful beach resorts. The sea in this part of Mexico has a completely different look and feel and is one of the most popular tourist resorts for people visiting Mexico.

I went for a walk on the beach early in the morning and took this photo on the way back to my hotel. Since it was early, I was luck to get an empty beach and a nice landscape.

318 - 29th - The perfect couple

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 29th Oct'08

Maybe it's just a freckle of my imagination but this pair of birds in the photo represent a typical "couple". If you see the bird on the left as male and on the right as female (again my assumption), you can see that female is strongly making her point with one claw in the air pointed towards the male & eyes wide open while the guy is sitting with a hanging neck & his eyes lowered, quietly listening to the words of wisdom.

It is just a random moment caught in the camera, but as they say - a picture is worth a thousand words.

317 - 28th - Footprints

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 28th Oct'08

Almost all of us would have read somewhere, the lines written below. These were exactly the lines which crossed my mind while I was clicking the picture. Read on ...

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?" The Lord replied, "The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.

316 - 27th - Pink petals

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 27th Oct'08

“Pink soft petals of rose with small droplets of salty sea water sprinkled on them, scattered on the beach & giving a beautiful contrast to the rough, grainy, brown sand” – It’s amazing how small things can lend a sense of beauty to places where you least expect it to exist. The beach was full of people running to and fro and maybe these petals would have got crushed under a careless foot but as long they lay there, they glittered under the slant rays of the rising sun.
