485 - 24th - A creeper in the sand

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 24th Apr'09

I was looking for some morning birds near the mangroves on the beach but finding them too quick to be shot, i gave up and started looking for something slower on the ground. There were shells, there were conchs and there were plants. The mangroves had all sorts of shrubs and creepers growing around. Small thorny plants, green and red crawlers on the ground and some beautiful purple flowers.

Of all those, two caught the attention of my camera. Here is one of them. The other quite similar to this one, would come up soon on the blog.

480 - 19th - The star fish

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 19th Apr'09

It is quite easy to find a shell or even a conch on the beach, but to find a star fish (dead though) is quite a piece of good luck. It was six in the morning and I was walking around the beach with no intentions of shell collecting at all when I stepped over this dead start fish. I didnt realize that it was actually a real fish until I picked it up and felt in my hands. I gave up the idea of keeping it with me when I realized that it might rot and start smelling a couple of days. So I captured it somewhere where it will forever remain the way it was - in my camera.

460 - 30th - All in a row

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 30th Mar'09

Often you could see flocks of birds flying away up and above the sea surface in neat little formations. Usually there is one leader while the others just follow him. It is really amazing how they predict the movement of the whole flock and move in absolutely symmetry. It is a known fact that flocks of birds fly for thousands of miles and migrate to far away continents solely on the basis of pure intuition.

It was really amazing to spend time watching their behavior; flying around in groups and occasionally diving into the water to catch some fish.

457 - 27th - At the far side

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 27th Mar'09

Not many people choose to go too far. Most of us limit ourselves to our boundaries of comfort and fail to explore the unknown. It was almost a similar scene at this beach. The shore curved at the far end and ended in an arc. But most of the people didn't come this far. They chose to be with the flock and limit themselves to the more "populated" part of the beach. There was some "beach-bikes" whose track marks could be seen, but even they didn't dare the high sea waves hitting the shore.

It was a long walk, but was worth being at a place where very few could reach.

333 - 13th - Cool blue beaches

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 13th Nov'08

The Caribbean is famous for its crystal clear sea water and white sand at the beaches. I got a chance to see the Mexican share of the Caribbean at Cancun. The sight of see-through sea water with ten different kinds of corals beneath it was really magical. The beaches were empty and serene with no signs of any pollution. You could practically spend an entire day just gazing at the sea without coming to know where actually the time flew away.

Apart from lazing around on the beach I enjoyed snorkeling too. I regretted not having an "under-water" camera as the scene underneath the sea was something you cannot even imagine.

332 - 12th - Building sand castles

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 12th Nov'08

Building sand castles - this is something I have never done in my life. The biggest reason for that being that I never came in contact with the sea until I was 15 and then perhaps it was too late to do such stuff. But when I saw this kid playing with wet sand, I couldn't stop myself from just staring at what he was doing. I observed him for nearly half an hour; the way he was building small heaps of sand and the way the waves from the ocean used to wash it away every couple of minutes.

I think it's never too late to do something ... maybe I should spend a day at a beach building my own castles of imagination.

328 - 8th - At the horizon

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 8th Nov'08

After a long day of roaming around I was exhausted to the core and thus decided to have a break and rest for some time at a deserted beach. As I was searching for an empty place to lie down, it was already getting dark and the beautiful coconut trees on the beach had started to turn into silhouettes. The sun had gone to bed leaving behind a dim trail of light. The ship at the horizon seemed to be sailing back home.

I lay down on en empty chair and closed my eyes. The sound of splashing water and a cool breeze hitting my face soon led me into deep slumbers.

324 - 4th - Daring the waves

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 4th Nov'08

These children seemed to be enjoying the splashing waves of the sea while being under the shade of the huge rock. I was sitting there and observing them for quite some time. Each time they would see a wave coming, they would yell at their father to be ready to click a photo. I don't know if he succeeded, but I definitely got this one after at least ten to fifteen attempts.

It's not that easy to catch that huge wave right in the air !!!

319 - 30th - On the beachside

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 30th Oct'08

Cancun is famous for its "Caribbean" beaches, with crystal clear sea water and beautiful beach resorts. The sea in this part of Mexico has a completely different look and feel and is one of the most popular tourist resorts for people visiting Mexico.

I went for a walk on the beach early in the morning and took this photo on the way back to my hotel. Since it was early, I was luck to get an empty beach and a nice landscape.

179 - 12th - At the beach

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 12th June'08

A lazy Sunday evening, probably a holiday for these fishermen too. All the boats were anchored ashore and the fishing nets bundled, scattered everywhere. Fishermen were lazing around; some chatting in pairs, others perched on their boats, staring idly at the vast stretch of the ocean in front of them.

This was the scene at a beach in Mahabalipuram on one fine Sunday evening.

74 - 28th - The lone surfer

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 28th Feb'08

Such small "dingy"s floating around deep into the sea waters is a common sight in this part of the world (Chennai to be specific). You go to any beach anywhere in Chennai & you can see numerous such boats venturing into deep sea hoping for a good catch. With no proper safety measures, even no proper boat to sail in, these fishermen spend their entire days searching for a bountiful of fish to earn their living.

58 - 12th - The small crabs

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 12th Feb'08

When the beach is empty and not many people are around, which is usually during the day or early morning, you can see hundreds of small crabs playing hide and seek in the moist sand just bordering the sea-waves. They dig up small holes and are very quick to hide in them once they sense anything or anyone approaching them.

Luckily, I managed to get a shot of one of those "little crabs" when it was just going to enter its burrow.

56 - 10th - Lonely abode

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 10th Feb'08

I went to the "Elliot's beach" today just to click some photos for the day when I saw this man enjoying the loneliness of the place and the vast stretch of water spread in front of his eyes. The weather was not very hot and the cool breeze hitting your face was making it quite comfortable to sit and enjoy the scenery. This man seemed to enjoy all of it.

37 - 22nd - Colors at the sea-side

Originally clicked and uploaded by - Pratosh Dwivedi - 22nd Jan'08

The Elliot's beach in Chennai is never short of a vibrant display of colors. Colors take different forms; balloons, face-masks, toys & obviously the various forms colorful mother nature.

While others are enjoying the nice weather and the cool ambiance of the beach, this girl was waiting for her first customers of the evening. The same place is a playground for so many different motives and ambition.
